Bleak House: Even though Tulkinghorn has damaging information on Lady Dedlock, she continues to defy him, much to his displeasure. Esther visits Guppy to have him promise to stop investigating her past. After being invited to visit Chesney Wold, Esther breaks down and reveals to Jarndyce her relationship to Lady Dedlock. Jarndyce comforts her and comes clean about his feelings for her. Despite his promises, Tulkinghorn calls in Sergeant George's debt leaving him in financial ruin.
